This experiment involved 15 men and women who were patients at the mental nursing home. They would participate in swimming, running, yoga, and the most popular football. Then after some time of participating in physical activity, the participants were interviewed about the cognitions of exercise. The results of all of the patients were put into three benefits that exercise produced; rehabilitative orientated, social orientated, and trust orientated. Rehabilitative orientated physical activity would allow the patients to get back to where they used to be before the mental hospital allowing them to have their work routine established again (Schebesch-Ruf). Social orientated physical activity emphasized on the “positive-perceived social relationships in groups or sport clubs” (Schebesch-Ruf). Finally, the trust orientated physical activity is based upon a “peer group where they felt safe, understood and accepted” (Schebesch-Ruf). Each category of physical activity produced different positive results that benefited different mental patients. No matter what category, this experiment proved that physical activity can benefit the mindfulness of a patient.
