Academic Engagement in students with ASD

Updated: Oct 30, 2019

This study was developed to focus primarily on academic engagement right after an exercise with a focus on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. For two mornings before school, a student would complete a 12-minute jog, followed by a cool-down or slow walk. After the workout, the student would go to his/her designated classroom where academic observation would be conducted. Nakutin stated in conclusion of the experiment that the “Enhanced knowledge on the use of PA interventions will lead to the increased efficiency of innovative interventions and improved educational outcomes for individuals with ASD.” The addition of just minimal physical activity improved the engagement towards academics within students that have slightly more difficulty paying attention when compared to the majority of the student body.
